WHO WE ARE
BEDA IS A MEMBERSHIP ORGANISATION THAT PROMOTES ECOLOGICAL
BEDA aims to promote the design of communities, environments, projects, systems, services, materials and products which enhance the quality of life and are not harmful to living species and planetary ecology.
BEDA was formed in 2011 by Howard Tombs and launched formally in February 2012 by Minister for Housing and the Environment at the England Office. The Minister handed out prizes to the winners of the The 1st British Ecological Design Award(BEDA) student, which we now run as the ‘BEDA Award’. BEDA began a programme of talks and visits, and a newsletter produced by GAIA which later became our current Magazine. And so, BEDA was born.
BEDA is a charity and is run by a Board of Directors, who are elected at Annual General Meetings and who oversee its activities and actively promote BEDA to the wider public. The Board meet 8 times a year for discussion and for planning the activities of the Association. A list of our current directors is as noted:
Catherine Cosgrove : Chair
Clive Bowman : Treasurer / Director
Chris Stewart : Director
Nick Domminney : Director
David Seel : Director
Gloria Lo : Director
Janice Foster: Director
Natasha Houchin: Director
All members are welcome to take part and contribute to our meetings.
BEDA registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee in February 2011.
The current BEDA organisation was agreed in 2012 with a series of topic-led sub groups, as illustrated below.
