2024 4TH BRITISH ECODESIGN AWARDS
WHAT IS BEDA
The British Ecology Design Award is an international design competition aimed at promoting ecological innovationSince its inception in 2018, this annual event has been successfully held for six times (the first two were held only in England), gradually expanding from England to the whole UK, and in 2022, it was opened to designers worldwide for the first time. The core goal of the award is to encourage designers and architects to apply their professional knowledge and innovative thinking to provide solutions to global ecological problems, while promoting the construction of ecological civilization.
In today’s world, ecological civilization represents a new stage of human development, emphasizing the harmonious coexistence between man and nature, man and man, and man and society. In this process, designers and architects play a crucial role.Their creativity directly affects our living environment and ecological health. The UK Eco-Design Award is based on this concept, encouraging participants to integrate ecological awareness and sustainable development concepts into their designs, transcend traditional thinking, and contribute to building a more sustainable future.
Through this competition, the organizers hope to cultivate a new generation of design talents with a high degree of environmental awareness and promote the development of the entire industry in a more sustainable direction. The annual award ceremony held in Sheffield, UK, is not only a recognition of outstanding works, but also an international exchange platform that provides participants with opportunities to showcase innovative ideas on the global stage.
With its expanding influence, the UK Eco-Design Award is gradually becoming an important force in promoting the development of global eco-design.It is not only a stage for showing talent and innovation, but also an international platform for inspiring and sharing experiences.Through this award, designers and architects can fully demonstrate their sense of social responsibility, contribute their wisdom and strength to address global ecological challenges, and jointly create a more sustainable future.

THE THEME OF THIS COMPETITION
/ Propositional Category
>>Harmonious coexistence of nature and technology
In today’s rapidly developing world, the balance between technological progress and nature conservation has become crucial. The theme of “Harmonious Coexistence of Nature and Technology” aims to explore how to use innovative technologies to protect, restore and enhance the natural environment, while ensuring human development and the sustainability of the Earth’s ecosystem.
This concept emphasizes:
1.Technology should be a powerful tool for nature conservation and environmental restoration, not a threat.
2.Innovative design should draw inspiration from nature to create solutions that are in harmony with the ecosystem.
3. Global cooperation is crucial to addressing environmental challenges, and technology can facilitate such cross-border collaboration.
4. Sustainable development requires respecting and maintaining the balance of natural ecology while meeting human needs.
Based on this theme, we propose the following three propositions and their design categories:
1. Global marine ecological restoration and sustainable fisheries
Design classification:
– Environmental design (landscape)
– Conceptual Design (Art and Technology)
– Media design (digital illustration, animation)
– Traditional arts and design (posters, photography)
This proposition focuses on how to use advanced technology to repair and protect the global marine ecosystem, while developing sustainable fisheries.Participants need to explore how technology can assist in marine ecological restoration while ensuring the sustainability of fishing activities, reflecting the harmonious coexistence of technology and the marine natural environment.
2. Cross-border Biodiversity Conservation Network
Design classification:
– Conceptual Design (Art and Ecology)
– Media design (digital illustration, UI design, video)
– Traditional Art and Design (Infographics)
– Fine Arts Creation (Installation Art)
This topic explores how to use technology to establish a transnational biodiversity conservation network.Participants should consider how to use digital technology to promote the interconnection and collaborative protection of the global ecosystem, and demonstrate how technology can enhance international cooperation to protect the biodiversity of the Earth.
3. Renewable energy and nature coexist harmoniously
Design classification:
– Environmental design (landscape and gardening)
– Conceptual Design (Art and Materials)
– Interior Design Category (All Categories)
– Fine arts creation (watercolor, oil painting, sculpture)
This proposition focuses on how to develop renewable energy on a global scale while ensuring harmonious coexistence with the natural environment.Entrants need to explore innovative ways in which the application of clean energy technologies can minimize impacts on the natural environment and even enhance the health of ecosystems.
These three propositions are closely centered on the core concept of “harmonious coexistence between nature and technology”, encouraging participants to explore how to use technological innovation to protect and enhance the natural environment from different perspectives and design categories, while promoting sustainable development.Through these diverse design categories, we hope to stimulate the creativity of participants, showcase the beautiful vision of harmonious coexistence between technology and nature, and encourage more people to participate in the cause of global environmental protection.
